As of Sept 16, Penticton Minor Hockey Association will be requiring all spectators in Penticton rinks, be vaccinated in accordance with the BC PHO and local requirements.
This requirement will be in effect for all PMHA events at the SOEC, OHTC, Memorial and McLaren arenas.
Each home team will be required to have 2 volunteers checking vaccine passports at the door, for both practices and games. Currently, a blue (1 dose) or green (2 doses) passport will allow entry into the event. Those without a valid passport or showing any Covid-19 symptoms are asked to please refrain from entering PMHA events.
If any person does not show proof of vaccine passports and enters the event, PMHA volunteers will be required to call Penticton Bylaw (250-490-2440) to report the individual. City bylaw will then remove the person from the venue and levy any applicable fines.
Critical volunteers (coaches, safety person, board members, on-ice officials) are currently exempt from this requirement as per ViaSport youth sport rules.
To be clear, this is for all spectators 12 years or older. Any parent that is required to help their child (U5, U7, U9) get dressed, is allowed in to help their child, but they are not permitted in the stands to watch without a valid vaccination passport.
Other rules are still in place as follows:
1. Masks - Mandatory at all times except for players when they are on the ice. Masks need to be worn correctly or spectators/players will be asked to leave the building.
2. Entry into arena - Players, coaches and applicable volunteers may enter the arena 30 minutes prior to their scheduled ice time. Spectators are permitted 5 minutes prior to the scheduled ice time and you must exit the arena immediately after the ice time is completed. Please do not congregate around the entrances/exits.
3. Covid symptoms - If you are experiencing any Covid symptoms please stay home and update your coach/manager as required.
These rules and protocols may change at any time.
